A foot injury to Jason Doyle is the headline news going into the Danish Grand Prix, the fifth meeting in the 12-race Speedway GP campaign.

Doyle, second behind Patryk Dudek in the title race and the only rider to have reached all four finals so far, has eased in betting for the showdown in Horsens since sustaining the injury on Sunday.

It was initially thought the Australian would be out for three weeks and he didn’t ride in Sweden’s Eliteserien on Monday or Tuesday. But being a speedway rider, and therefore slightly nuts, he took to the shale in Horsens on Friday and declared himself fit.

Doyle must be feeling the injury, however, and looks a man to swerve.

Former world champ Tai Woffinden returns to the head of the betting even though he is down in eighth spot in the standings. A paid 14 and paid 15 in Sweden earlier in the week confirm the Englishman is still riding well, but he is yet to make a final this year.

Greg Hancock looks a better bet. The American has been tinkering with his kit all season without much luck – until last time out in the Czech Republic. Grin shone with four heat wins and second place behind Doyle in the final.

Hancock enjoys Horsens and so too does Maciej Janowski, who may just represent the best each-way option at 11-1.

He won this race last year, was a semi-finalist 12 months earlier and has been a model of consistency in 2017 with two podiums in the opening four races.

A paid 14 for Dackarna on Tuesday night was the latest excellent club result for the Pole, who has to fancy his chances on shale he likes.

Home fans will be hoping for big things from Niels-Kristian Iversen, though the Dane has yet to reach a final in a modest campaign. He may even be upstaged by compatriot Peter Kildemand, who won this race in 2015.
