Favourite Dovizioso too short

Andrea Dovizioso proved quickest in wet and dry conditions on practice day in Malaysia but the Ducati rider looks a poor-value favourite to take pole position.

Dovi has won five races this season and is still in contention to win the world title, but he has yet to start from pole this season.

Honda's Marc Marquez will retain the championship if he finishes first or second on Sunday. He wouldn't be the worst bet at 15-8 to top qualifying for the eighth time this year after going fifth fastest in the dry practice and second in the wet later on.

Dovi's Ducati teammate Jorge Lorenzo has had a frustrating first year at the Italian team but is capable of getting involved in the pole battle at 10-1.

However, an even better value bet could be rookie of the year Johann Zarco.

The Frenchman is finishing the season in strong form, taking pole position in Japan and a fine fourth place in Australia last time where he also set the fastest lap of the race.
