Veteran Tony Kanaan can contend for second Indianapolis 500 victory

There's no Fernando Alonso in the Indianapolis 500 this year but another thrilling race is in prospect and veteran Brazilian Tony Kanaan looks sure to give his backers a decent run.
The 43-year-old just missed the cut for Fast Friday, when Ed Carpenter took pole for the third time in six years, but he was best of the rest on pole day and topped the overall times in final practice on Friday.
Kanaan has a vast library of Brickyard experience to draw on having won the 200-lap showdown in 2013 and recorded his eighth top-five finish in 16 attempts last year.
The top nine was dominated by two teams, with Carpenter joined in his eponymous outfit by youngster Spencer Pigot, who could be decent value at a big price, and headline act Danica Patrick. All four Team Penske drivers - Simon Pagenaud, Will Power, Josef Newgarden and Helio Castroneves - are at the front of the grid too.
There are four British drivers in the 33-car field - Max Chilton (20th), Stefan Wilson (23rd), Jay Howard (28th) and Jack Harvey (31st), but Pippa Mann failed to qualify this year along with 2016 polesitter James Hinchcliffe.
