Andrea Dovizioso a value alternative to hot favourite Marc Marquez

Marc Marquez proved that fortune favours the brave by taking pole position for the Czech Republic Grand Prix after gambling on a switch to slick tyres on a drying track.

Moments after Andrea Dovizioso had shot up to second place using a fresh set of wet tyres, Marquez found a huge chunk of time with his dry-weather rubber even as drizzle began to fall again.

The Honda rider deposed Johann Zarco, who had set his time much earlier in the session, in the dying moments of qualifying. Zarco was appearing in Q2 for the first time this year and was a three-figure price to take pole position for KTM.

After that heroic effort Marquez is unsurprisingly a heavy favourite to win in Brno for the third time.

The Spanish sensation has five wins and three second places in nine races this season and leads the championship by 59 points.

Dovizioso headed the standings after three races and while the Italian has gone off the boil in recent events, he is showing signs of a return to form this weekend.

The 2018 Brno winner set the pace in the opening practice session of the weekend and will be encouraged by the much improved weather forecast for race day.

Third on the grid represents Dovi's first front row start since the second race of the season in Argentina and the Ducati rider is worth a small bet to repeat last year's Czech win.

Recommendation
A Dovizioso
