F1 staged qualifying and the race on the same day for the Japanese Grand Prix recently and MotoGP is going the same route for the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island after qualifying was postponed on Saturday due to high winds.
Miguel Oliveira suffered a heavy crash in FP4 when his bike was blown off the track by a strong gust, causing the remainder of the Saturday schedule to be abandoned due to safety concerns.
Marc Marquez had been fastest in the few laps that were possible in the difficult conditions, but Maverick Vinales had been the star of the show in both wet and dry on Friday, was again fastest in FP3 and was second in FP4 when it was called off. He looks a value alternative to the world champion, who is evens favourite for the race.
