Australian Daniel Ricciardo has a lofty reputation in Formula One, and deservedly so.

The former Red Bull driver has won seven grands prix and he comprehensively outperformed his veteran teammate Nico Hulkenberg in his first season at Renault last year.

However, the affable Aussie could have a harder time dominating Esteban Ocon this season.

Young Frenchman Ocon is managed by Mercedes boss Toto Wolff and could well find himself racing at the wheel of a silver car one day.

He'll be raring to go this year after being forced to spend 2019 as a reserve driver and looks overpriced to outpace Ricciardo in qualifying over the course of the season.

Ricciardo won the qualifying head-to-head 14-7 against Hulkenberg last year, but was less than a tenth of a second quicker on average than the German on Saturdays and is renowned as a racer rather than a qualifier.

He was outdone 14-5 by Max Verstappen in his final year at Red Bull while Ocon was 16-5 up against his Racing Point teammate Sergio Perez, who is no slouch, that year.
