Lewis Hamilton worth backing to get back to top form
Practice one Sky Sports F1 10am Friday
Practice two Sky Sports F1, 2pm Friday
Lewis Hamilton managed to increase his championship lead despite finishing only ninth in Germany on Sunday, and the Mercedes ace is worth backing to get his Hungarian Grand Prix weekend off to the perfect start.
The twisty Hungaroring has not been the strongest circuit for Mercedes – they have won there in two of the last five years with two wins for Ferrari and one for Red Bull in that time.
But this year’s Silver Arrows look much steadier in slow corners than their predecessors and the team will be confident of returning to the top after their nightmare at Hockenheim.
Max Verstappen has won two of the last three races and is second favourite to Hamilton to win in Hungary on Sunday.
The Red Bull driver crossed the line a close second in Monaco, the only track on the calendar with a lower average speed than Hungary.
Despite the relatively high number of retirements in Germany, no drivers are expected to take grid penalties for changing technical components at a track where overtaking is difficult.
