F1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix qualifying betting preview, tip & TV details
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc can build on promising practice in Baku
TV: Sky Sports F1, 2pm Saturday
Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend got off to a farcical start as almost all of first practice was cancelled.
George Russell’s Williams was damaged by a loose drain cover, and then the recovery truck taking the car back to the pits crashed into a bridge.
That made for a busy FP2 as the teams tried to make up for lost time, but that session was also interrupted by a number of incidents.
There was no doubt about the star of the day, though.
Charles Leclerc bossed the session, ending up 0.324 seconds faster than his four-time world champion teammate Sebastian Vettel and almost seven-tenths faster than title-race leader Lewis Hamilton.
Friday times aren’t always reliable, but such a gap can be considered an indicator that Ferrari have the upper hand at this track.
They need to convert that advantage into a result after Mercedes have started the season with three consecutive one-two finishes.
But Leclerc was desperately unlucky not to earn his debut win in Bahrain when his Ferrari developed an engine issue in the closing laps.
The young Monegasque had shown his speed from the outset of that weekend as well before going on to score a commanding pole position and taking control of the race.
Leclerc finished a season-best sixth in Baku last year for Sauber and is worth backing for pole.
