Mighty Mineiro may be too clinical for forlorn Fluminense

Brazilian Serie A

Atletico Mineiro bounced back from three matches without a win by beating America-MG in their last game and they can record another three points against a flagging Fluminense side.

The visitors are winless in their last three, losing 2-0 to Rio rivals Flamengo most recently, and they could struggle away to one of the division’s most potent attacks.

Mineiro have netted just one goal fewer than top-of-the-table Flamengo and Roger Guedes (six), Ricardo Oliveira (five) and Serginho (four) have all been reliable sources of goals.

They have edged possession in each of their last five matches in Brazilian Serie A and will be desperate for league success after falling to a loss against Cruzeiro in the final of the Campeonato Mineiro earlier this year and going out at the first knockout stage of the Copa Sudamericana.

Atletico’s strength is in attack and their concession of eight goals in their last four matches provides the away side with hope that they can at least get on the scoresheet.

Fluminense have held Gremio and beaten highflying Cruzeiro already this season, so they have shown they can test stronger opposition, but they will likely be outscored by an Atletico team who have drawn a blank on just one occasion in Serie A this year.
