Mensur Suljovic can kick off World Series in style
Tough draw could see van Gerwen defeated
Live on ITV4, from 2pm Friday
The World Series starts with the German Masters in Gelsenkirchen today with Michael van Gerwen 8-11 to pick up a 13th title of 2018.
The recently-crowned Premier League champion begins his competition against Max Hopp, one of eight German aces pitting their wits against eight of the PDC’s finest.
Van Gerwen could have had an easier draw – Hopp beat Peter Wright, Rob Cross and Michael Smith to win the German Open last month – though he still looks the man to beat.
Van Gerwen is in the same half of the draw as Gary Anderson – who also has a tough opener against Gabriel Clemens – while the seeds in the bottom half are Peter Wright and Rob Cross.
The best value bet, however, may well be Mensur Suljovic, a quarter-finalist at the Dutch Masters earlier this month and now a proven performer on the big stage.
The tournament is one of six events which makes up the World Series and is being screened live on ITV4.
