Matteo Manassero should find safe passage along familiar terrain
Korhonen can win all-Finnish affair
Matteo Manassero is licking his lips at the prospect of tackling his home track in a European Tour event and the 25-year-old looks a value outsider against George Coetzee in an Italian Open match.
Manassero, 20th, 20th and 27th in his latest three Tour outings, finished third in the 2012 Italian Open and will hope for similar inspiration in front of supportive galleries this week. Coetzee, who is less dependable off the tee, has missed his last two European Tour cuts and may suffer too much tree trouble to be a factor at Gardagolf Country Club.
Two other match-bet options appeal. Mikko Korhonen can win an all-Finnish contest against Mikko Ilonen. Korhonen shared 15th place at Wentworth on Sunday in elite company, while Ilonen missed the cut. The more accurate Finn can win the day on another tight track.
Neat and tidy Dutchman Joost Luiten should enjoy the Gardagolf layout and he seems likely to outscore a struggling Thomas Pieters over 72 holes. Pieters has been out of sorts and is in great danger of losing his Ryder Cup place.
