Matt Wallace should have a spring in his step

Danny Willett may struggle to impress Europe Ryder Cup captain

Danny Willett (right) has endured a serious loss of form since becoming a Major champion

Sky Sports Golf, 2.30pm Thursday

Thomas Bjorn is showing former Masters champion Danny Willett great respect in choosing to play alongside him for the first two days of the Hassan Trophy, but the Dane is unlikely to be impressed with what he sees.

European Ryder Cup captain Bjorn liaises with tournament bigwigs with regards to his partners – it is important that the skipper gets a close-up view of potential candidates for his team – but Willett has been in a slump for a year and has plummeted to 347th in the world.

Matt Wallace, the third member of the 1.30pm group, has more chance of making the Ryder Cup side than Willett. Wallace won the Indian Open just over a month ago and has fully established himself on the European Tour.

A month of rust contributed to Wallace missing the cut in Spain last week, but he can be expected to get back among the birdies in the Hassan.

Wallace seems to come alive at this time of the year. Four of his eight victories as a professional have come in the spring and he has won twice in north Africa (Egypt and Tunisia) on the Alps Tour. The Londoner can leave Bjorn and Willett behind in Morocco.
