Matt Parkinson primed to put Yorkshire in a bind
Lancashire leg-spinner is the leading One-Day Cup bowler
Lancashire v Yorkshire
With the Headingley Test finishing two days early and a rare thin schedule, it is a pity that the Sky cameras could not have been rushed to Old Trafford for Tuesday's One-Day Cup war of the roses.
Lancashire can’t qualify for the knockouts, but victory for visitors Yorkshire would put them in an excellent position to progress as their finale is against another eliminated outfit in Northamptonshire.
The top team in the North Group go straight into the semi-finals while the next two play the second and third teams from the South Group for a last-four berth.
However, the Red Rose hosts have the best net run-rate in the section and a third success on the spin would nudge the White Rose county behind the eight ball.
Both sides have beaten the bottom two teams and Derbyshire but the layers are understandably more taken by Yorkshire’s three 50-over road wins and the feast of runs this campaign for Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Cheteshwar Pujara.
The best bet looks to be Matt Parkinson to take the most wickets for Lancashire. Parkinson is the leading bowler in the tournament with 14 victims and the young leg-spinner has taken 5-68 and 2-29 in his two outings in Manchester.
Afghanistan are 10-11 to go 2-0 up in their three-match T20 series with Bangladesh in Dehradun. They won Sunday’s opener by 45 runs.
Remaining North Group fixtures – Tuesday (11am): Lancs v Yorks; Thursday (all 2pm): Warks v Worcs, Yorks v Northants, Leics v Durham, Notts v Derbys.
