Man City Champions League favourites after kind draw

Tough tasks for Liverpool, Spurs and Man United

Pep Guardiola will have been pleased with Man City's draw
1 of 1

Manchester City are the clear favourites to win the Champions League after avoiding the big guns in the group stage draw but rivals Manchester United are on the drift - shifting to a best-priced 30-1 – after learning they will be up against Juventus and Valencia in the battle to reach the round of 16.

The chances of a decent draw for City were always high due to their status as top seeds but they can be satisfied after joining Shakhtar Donetsk, Lyon and Hoffenheim in Group F.

There was a favourable market reaction as City shortened from 6-1 to 9-2 to lift the trophy, while bet365 installed the Citizens as the 4-5 favourites to progress furthest of the Premier League teams.

While City's progress looks highly likely, things are trickier for United, Tottenham and Liverpool.

United will be up against a Juventus side spearheaded by Cristiano Ronaldo in Group H and may have to scrap it out with Valencia for second place. The section also features Swiss side Young Boys.
Jose Mourinho's men are 3-1 to win the group.

Liverpool reached the final last year but are 6-4 second favourites to win Group C after being drawn alongside Paris St-Germain, Napoli and Red Star Belgrade.

The Reds are 14-1 outright, but are given a better chance than 25-1 shots Tottenham, who take on Barcelona, Inter and PSV Eindhoven in Group B.

Spurs famously came through a tough section last season, finishing above Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

They are 5-2 to top their group again, while Barcelona are 1-2 favourites and Inter are 8-1.

All four English teams are either favourites or second favourites in their sections and Coral offer 11-8 that all of them get through to the knockout stage.

The firm offer 5-2 that there is an English winner and 5-1 about an all-English final.

Bet365 bet on how many of the Premier League teams reach the round of 16 and make three the favourite at 6-5. All four can be backed at 11-8.

Holders Real Madrid are as big as 9-1 to win the trophy for a fourth successive season despite being handed a favourable draw.

Los Blancos will take on Roma, CSKA Moscow and Viktoria Plzen in Group G and are 2-7 to progress in first place.

Atletico Madrid are the 4-7 favourites to finish above Borussia Dortmund and Bruges in Group A and Bayern Munich are much shorter at 1-6 to top Group E at the expense of Benfica, Ajax and AEK Athens.

The softest section of lot sees Lokomotiv Moscow, Porto, Schalke and Galatasaray lock horns in Group D.

Porto are the sectional favourites at 11-8 with Schalke next best at 7-4.
