Gloucestershire could be too hot for Middlesex to handle

Yorkshire v Lancashire
Sky Sports Cricket & Main Event, 7pm Thursday

Lancashire Lightning are winless in four T20 Blast matches since claiming the scalp of Yorkshire Vikings last month but they can reignite their playoff push with another win in the televised Roses clash.

The visitors started their Blast campaign in scintillating form, following their opening-day defeat with five successive victories, three of which were won by margins of at least eight wickets, before a dip in results.

There have been strong displays in both disciplines from Lancashire this campaign and they will be buoyed by the fact that they have already beaten their rivals in the Blast.

Opener Alex Davies has been a consistent performer with scores of 53, 94 not out and 19 in his last three matches and the Lightning have taken 60 wickets in their ten Blast games.

Two teams in contrasting veins of form meet when Gloucestershire host Middlesex in the South Group and the hosts can make it four wins in five matches.

Middlesex are winless in five fixtures after being bowled out for a paltry 131 in their last game against Glamorgan. Gloucestershire, meanwhile, have surpassed the 150-run mark in all but two of their Blast innings this term.

Benny Howell and Ryan Higgins in particular have helped to bolster Gloucestershire’s middle-order and their batting depth can carry them to another comprehensive win.
