Leipzig and Werner likely to benefit from Gunes stance
Besiktas boss has left several usual starters in Istanbul
BT Sport Extra, 7.45pm Wednesday
Leipzig must win if they’re to make it to the last 16 in their debut Champions League season and their task has been made much easier after veteran Besiktas head coach Senol Gunes opted to leave a number of his starters at home.
The Istanbul outfit have qualified for the knockout rounds in fine style and have no need to risk their main men before their big weekend clash with potential Super Lig title rivals Kayserispor.
That should open the door for Leipzig, who need to better Porto’s result against Monaco if they are to have any hope of qualifying for the next round.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men were humbled 4-0 by Hoffenheim on Saturday but they’ve demonstrated that last season was no flash in the pan by contending on the continent.
Timo Werner has led the way in front of goal again this season and he could strike the first blow.
