Leganes look set to oust Madrid rivals
Leganes left it late to retain their top-flight status last season but they have made a solid start this time and can make it three wins from three by overcoming their newly-promoted Madrid rivals Getafe.
Asier Garitano’s troops picked up eight points from their final five games last term to send Sporting Gijon down at their expense but much better is expected this season and a brace of 1-0 wins against Alaves and Espanyol have raised hopes for a fruitful campaign.
Leganes operate on one of La Liga’s smaller budgets but attracting players doesn’t seem to trouble them and overcoming rivals Getafe could be a routine task.
The pair have not clashed in a competitive fixture for 13 years and Getafe have not been dealt an easy round of opening fixtures.
The visitors started their campaign with a goalless draw at Bilbao before being beaten 1-0 at home to giants Sevilla and scoring goals could be their downfall.
Getafe, who were promoted via the playoffs, notched fewer than any other top-five side on their travels last season and their road form was poor.
The Deep Blues have won just two of their last 16 away matches and they may find neighbours Leganes better prepared for the task ahead.
