German ace loves Abu Dhabi

The marquee threeball of Henrik Stenson, Dustin Johnson and Danny Willett, who all won a Major last season, tee off at 8.05am UK and Ireland time in the second round of the Abu Dhabi Championship.

Stenson, who was 7-1 second-favourite ante-post, fired a round-one 64 to quickly hit the top of the leaderboard. The Swede admitted he did not arrive with much close-season practice under his belt and was surprised by how well he performed.

Following up a fantastic round is never easy, although Stenson deserves favouritism for his second-round threeball.

Johnson's coach Claude Harmon revealed that his pupil had been rusty and unimpressive in practice. The American should come on for the run on a course he had not seen prior to this week, but the experienced Stenson will be tough to beat. Willett was poor in his 74.

The best threeball option may be Martin Kaymer (7.55am), a three-time Abu Dhabi champ who once blew a ten-shot lead when chasing a fourth title.

Kaymer loves this layout and can outscore playing partners Rickie Fowler and Alex Noren for the second day running.

Kaymer beat Fowler by six shots and Noren by five in round one, and 13-8 looks a big price considering the German's comfort on this course.
