Karolina Pliskova can march to Brisbane International final
BT Sport 1, from 11am Friday
Karolina Pliskova has been mounting a strong defence of her Brisbane International title and can march into the final by defeating third seed Elina Svitolina.
There is little to choose between the players on the WTA rankings with Pliskova fourth and Svitolina sixth.
But Pliskova has won five of the six matches between the players, including all of their three meetings on hard courts.
The Czech was given a hard match by Estonian qualifier Kaia Kanepi in the quarter-finals but came through 3-6 7-5 6-2 and was pleased with her performance after producing 42 winners, 15 aces and only 31 unforced errors.
Svitolina was the beneficiary of a retirement - she led quarter-final opponent Johanna Konta 1-6 7-6 3-2 when the British number one walked off court with a hip injury - but may not be playing at the required level to spring a surprise.
