John Isner not expected to tarry against Jarry
Gilles Simon could make life difficult for Raonic

Isner v Jarry
John Isner took a while to settle in his US Open curtain-raiser against Bradley Klahn and the Californian never really let the 11th seed, who won 7-6 6-3 6-4, get going in the match.
A win is a win, though, and Isner, who is playing in the most important Grand Slam of his life, may get more opportunities to stretch his wings in his second-round clash with Nicolas Jarry.
The world number 47 looks the most exciting prospect Chile has produced since top-ten players Fernando Gonzalez and Nicolas Massu, so Wimbledon semi-finalist Isner would do well to respect his opponent's ability.
But while the lean Jarry, 22, is no mug when it comes to firing down aces, he is up against one of the finest servers in tennis history.
Isner's tight, controlled game should win the day and he can be backed to successfully concede a handicap start of 4.5 games.

Raonic v Simon
Milos Raonic may gradually be returning to the sort of form that could see the 2016 Wimbledon finalist challenge in Slams again, but the Canadian is no certainty to have things all his own way against a fine player like Gilles Simon.
Raonic has beaten Simon comfortably only once in their five previous meetings and the Frenchman, who has won sets against the 25th seed in Australian and French Opens, can do likewise in their first US Open rumble.

Strycova v Arruabarrena
Normally punters would be fearful of the likelihood that serial Czech underachiever Barbora Strycova could sweep aside Lara Arruabarrena in a fast-court Slam, but the Spaniard is playing so well that she can be supported with a start of 5.5 games.
It’s 2-2 in the pair's personal series and that backs up the case for supporting Arruabarrena, who hammered Kateryna Kozlova 6-0 6-3 in her opener.

Giorgi v V Williams
There was a slight suspicion that Venus Williams may have been struggling to hit the heights this season, but there was little wrong with her first-round victory over Washington DC champ Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Camila Giorgi is doing a good job of trying to move up a notch in the sport's echelon, but it's difficult to quibble with Williams' price to reach the last 32.

Goerges v Makarova
Julia Goerges achieved her best Grand Slam placing when making the semis at Wimbledon last month, but the German may be up against it in round two in New York.
Ekaterina Makarova is one of the best female players not to have triumphed at singles in Slams and if the Muscovite produces her A-game it could be one-way traffic.
