Best Premier League bet

Chelsea v Leicester 3pm Saturday

Chelsea's defence has had a rocky couple of weeks, conceding a 96th-minute equaliser at home to Tottenham before an error-strewn 3-0 defeat at Leeds, where new centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly was sent off.

The Senegal captain is suspended for Saturday's clash with Leicester, who have conceded eight goals in three Premier League matches this season and are missing key defender, and Chelsea transfer target, Wesley Fofana.

The Foxes pose a serious attacking threat, however, failing to score in only three of their 29 league matches since last November's 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea.

Transfer speculation over James Maddison's Foxes future does not seem to have distracted the attacking midfielder, who scored in Leicester's 4-2 defeat at Arsenal and 2-1 home loss to Southampton.

Maddison, who also had six shots at goal in the opening-weekend draw with Brentford, scored 17 goals in 38 starts in all competitions last term despite an injury-hit campaign and he is an eye-catching each-way bet to strike first at Stamford Bridge.

Best EFL bet

Port Vale v Portsmouth 3pm Saturday

Portsmouth suffered their first defeat of the season on Tuesday, losing 3-2 at Newport County in the EFL Cup, but League One promotion is the priority for Pompey, who can claim a fourth straight league win away to Port Vale.

Danny Cowley's men showed their character last weekend, scoring two late goals to seal a 3-1 home victory over Bristol Rovers after midfielder Louis Thompson suffered a broken leg.

Before that gutsy win, Portsmouth had thumped Cambridge United 4-1, won 2-0 at Cheltenham and beaten Championship side Cardiff 3-0 away from home in the EFL Cup first round and they kicked off the campaign with a 3-3 draw at title hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday.

Former Accrington striker Colby Bishop has scored five times in his first six Pompey appearances but there are goal threats throughout the team.

Vale, League Two playoff winners in 2021-22, won 2-0 at bottom-club Burton last weekend but scored only three times in their four previous league matches and may struggle to keep their in-form visitors quiet.

Best European bet

Bayern Munich v Borussia Monchengladbach
Sky Sports Football, 5.30pm Saturday

Bayern Munich beat Wolfsburg 2-0 in their first home game of the Bundesliga season and that scoreline may have left Bayern fans feeling slightly underwhelmed given their side's results away from the Allianz Arena.

In their other three matches at the start of 2022-23, the German champions beat RB Leipzig 5-3 in the Super Cup before 6-1 and 7-0 away routs of Eintracht Frankfurt, last season's Europa League winners, and Bochum.

Nine different Bayern players have scored in their first three Bundesliga games, although Saturday's visitors Borussia Monchengladbach are also in good heart after taking seven points from a possible nine this term.

Only an injury-time penalty for Schalke denied Gladbach a perfect start and they have scored at least twice in ten of their last 14 Bundesliga fixtures.

They won 2-1 away to Bayern last term, also holding the champions to a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture, and, while the hosts should avenge that defeat, Gladbach can contribute to a high-scoring contest.

Weekend accumulators

Banker
Leyton Orient
League Two leaders Orient have taken 13 points from a possible 15 this season and should continue their excellent start with a home win over struggling Hartlepool, who they beat 5-0 at Brisbane Road last term.

Blowout
Watford
The Hornets are second in the Championship despite scoring only four goals in five matches and, with forwards Joao Pedro and Ismaila Sarr seemingly on their way out of the club, they may drop points at home to QPR.
