Best Premier League bet

Fulham v Brentford 3pm Saturday

Fulham have made an encouraging start on their return to the Premier League although manager Marco Silva will be frustrated that his side were unable to take maximum points from at least one of their draws with Liverpool and Wolves.

They led twice against the Reds, conceding a second equaliser in the 80th minute, and star striker Aleksandar Mitrovic had a penalty saved in last weekend's stalemate at Molineux.

Fulham are favourites to chalk up a win at home to West London rivals Brentford but their lack of ruthlessness is a concern against a Bees side who are relishing top-flight football.

Thomas Frank's men won seven of their final 11 Premier League fixtures last season and came from 2-0 down to earn a draw at Leicester in their 2022-23 opener.

Last weekend they claimed a famous 4-0 home win over Manchester United, scoring four times in the first 35 minutes, and they could prove too sharp for Fulham, who are still third-favourites for relegation.

Best EFL bet

Peterborough v Lincoln 3pm Saturday

Peterborough have won four of their five matches in all competitions this season, scoring ten goals in those victories, and they look set for an entertaining League One win at home to Lincoln.

Posh came from 2-0 down to beat Cheltenham 3-2 on the opening weekend, thanks to a Jonson Clarke-Harris brace and a goal from Jack Marriott, and the two strikers caused ten-man Sheffield Wednesday all sorts of problems on Tuesday night.

Clarke-Harris scored his third goal of the campaign against the Owls while Marriott racked up eight shots in 80 minutes and midfielder Jack Taylor wrapped up the points with a late header.

There are goals throughout the Peterborough side and in their previous home game they thumped Morecambe 3-0 with wing-back Joe Ward and midfielders Hector Kyprianou and Ben Thompson on the scoresheet.

A home win in a game featuring over 2.5 goals looks a decent bet this weekend. Visitors Lincoln are unbeaten this term and have scored in four of their five league and cup matches but Posh should be feeling fresh after playing against ten men for almost an hour on Tuesday and they have the firepower to see off the Imps.

Best European bet

Toulouse v Lorient 2pm Sunday

Lorient's Ligue 1 home fixture against Lyon last weekend was postponed due to the poor state of their drought-hit pitch but they return to action with a trip to promoted Toulouse on Sunday.

Last season's Ligue 2 champions Toulouse drew 1-1 with Nice before a 3-0 win at Troyes although they had fewer shots than their opponents in both games and are easy to swerve at odds-on in the match betting.

An own goal gave Lorient a 1-0 opening win away to Brittany rivals Rennes, where winger Armand Lauriente also hit the post with one of his four attempts at goal.

The 23-year-old clearly goes well fresh, having scored in three of his first five away games last season. At 16-1, playing on the left of a front three for Lorient, Lauriente looks a worthwhile each-way bet to open the scoring.

Weekend accumulators

Banker
Strasbourg
Sixth in Ligue 1 last season, Strasbourg started this term with a 2-1 defeat to Monaco and 1-1 draw with Nice but they should get a first win at home to Reims, who have conceded eight goals in two games.

Blowout
Chelsea
After an unconvincing 1-0 win at struggling Everton and a tempestuous 2-2 draw with Tottenham, Chelsea do not look certainties to take three points at improving Leeds.
