Match preview

Kawasaki Frontale are up against it in their quest to claim an AFC Champions League qualifying spot, sitting one place but seven points below third-placed Yokohama in the Japanese J1 League.

It's a massive gap to bridge given there are just four league games remaining with the first a trip to national heavyweights Urawa Red Diamonds, but their task is made slightly less daunting by the fact that their hosts will be far from fully focused.

Urawa Reds made a slow start to their 2019 domestic campaign and their league form has dropped off dramatically as they have navigated their way through the AFC Champions League, the continental title the Saitama club won as recently as 2017.

Their progress through the knockout stages has coincided with a run of just one win in 12 J1 League matches, which has seen Diamonds sink well out of contention for domestic honours and switch focus to Saturday's AFC Champions League final first-leg clash with Saudi side Al-Hilal.

While Kawasaki haven't been able to maintain their electric early-season form, the visitors can keep their top-three hopes alive against distracted hosts with a record of five defeats and two draws in seven home meetings with the top eight.
