Istomin can teach young Donaldson a lesson in Chengdu
Uzbek ace looks to be coming back to the boil
From 7am Friday
Denis Istomin ruthlessly dispatched rising star Karen Khachanov on Wednesday and can book his place in the last four of the Chengdu Open with victory over another promising youngster in Jared Donaldson.
Istomin has struggled for large parts of the season but victory over Richard Gasquet in Metz last week followed by straight-set triumphs over Jan-Lennard Struff and Khachanov in China suggest he is slowly coming back to the boil.
The layers make Donaldson favourite after his comfortable win over Kyle Edmund in the last round but he limped past Greek teenager Stefanos Tsitsipas before that and was soundly beaten 7-6 6-4 by Istomin when the pair last met in May.
