In-form Pizzi could strike first in Lisbon derby
Benfica star is on penalty duty
Freesports, 7pm Saturday
Benfica and Sporting have both enjoyed successful starts to their Primeira Liga campaigns as they aspire to dethrone champions Porto and the title rivals should serve up a lively Lisbon derby at the Estadio da Luz.
The in-form duo have netted five goals apiece in claiming maximum points from their opening two league games and this early duel has the makings of a classic.
Benfica conceded twice in their curtain-raiser against visiting Vitoria Guimaraes, while Sporting are still waiting for their first clean sheet of the season having shipped in wins over Moreirense and Vitoria Setubal.
Both teams have scored in four of the last six meetings and with the pair full of confidence there’s no reason to expect either of them to adopt a defensive approach.
However, just three points separated the sides last season with Benfica pipping their neighbours for second place. Both league meetings ended all-square and picking a winner isn’t easy.
Taking a chance on the thriving Luis Pizzi to open the scoring could reap the rewards.
The Portuguese playmaker has played a pivotal part in Benfica’s quick start, notching four of their five league goals, and looks to have been underestimated in the scorer markets despite his rich vein of form.
As well as notching a first-half hat-trick in the 3-2 win over Guimaraes, Pizzi grabbed the second in the 2-0 triumph at Boavista and scored the opener in their midweek Champions League draw with PAOK.
Pizzi is also on penalty duty and the 12-1 on offer about him making the breakthrough looks too big.
