THE 100th season of the National Hockey League begins tonight with defending champions Pittsburgh heading the market.

But with several high-profile players wearing different colours this season there could be a shake-up in the pecking order.

It’s fair to say the season is all about the eight-week battle for the Stanley Cup that begins in April. But each team must play 82 high-energy, bruising matches before the wheat is separated from the chaff as 14 of the 30 teams fail to make the cut.
