Thorbjorn Olesen is a four-time European Tour champion at the age of 27, has been playing more consistently than ever this season, and is an attractive outsider in a Portugal Masters match against Andy Sullivan.

Olesen, who also won the GolfSixes pairs event with Lucas Bjerregaard in May, finished fourth in the Nordea Masters and third in the French Open this summer. Tenth place in the WGC at Firestone was a more recent example of excellence, and 14th place last time out in the Made In Denmark was another solid performance.

Sullivan, the 2015 Portugal champion, has the superior course form. Whether that will count for much this time, though, is doubtful. The Englishman missed the cut by two shots in Holland last week and form figures from his last four tournaments of 70-50-MC-MC do not inspire confidence.

Thomas Pieters has also been struggling for positive results in his most recent outings, but seems much more likely to bounce back soon. He finished fourth in the Firestone WGC at the start of last month, so it was not long ago that he was mixing it with the elite. This week's venue suits and the Belgian can outscore Shane Lowry, who has been largely unimpressive all season.
