Gonzalo Higuain could tear up Serie A with new club Milan
Max Meyer could be set for tough start
Our assessment of this week's top transfer deals
Juventus to Milan, loan
Despite an influx of new players season-after-season, Milan have struggled to find a world-class striker since losing Zlatan Ibrahimovic six years ago. Their search could finally be over.
The developing Paulo Dybala and this summer’s arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo saw Gonzalo Higuain fall down the pecking order at Juventus but he could be a key player at the San Siro.
The Argentinian has posted impressive goalscoring records at every club he has played for, scoring 40 goals in 73 appearance for the Old Lady after a spell at Napoli which saw him equal the Serie A record for most goals in a season with 36 in 2015-16.
The forward suits Gennaro Gattuso’s direct style of play and is the archetypal target man desired by Milan’s creative midfield crop.
Verdict A smart acquisition
Schalke to Crystal Palace, free
Max Meyer played 21 games for Schalke last season as the club finished runners-up in the Bundesliga but he could take time to adjust to life in the Premier League with Palace.
Meyer reinvented himself in the holding role for the German side last term and is likely a replacement for Yohan Cabaye at Selhurst Park. Athough his wizardry on the ball and eye for a pass are impressive, he is not the man for a physical battle.
Verdict Unlikely to make an immediate impact
Swansea to Fulham, £15m
Mawson was a defensive mainstay for relegated Swansea last campaign and he could enjoy a more successful time with promoted Fulham.
Slavisa Jokanovic’s enterprising football could suit Mawson, who is composed in possession, and in the modern market, he could prove to be a value acquisition.
Verdict A developing talent
