Sky Sports Golf, 10am Thursday

Former Open champion and Swedish hero Henrik Stenson headlines the marquee threeball in the opening round of the Scandinavian Invitation this week, joining Matthew Fitzpatrick and Marcus Kinhult on the tee at 7am UK and Ireland time.

The high-class trio should make merry on a calm, sunny morning and closely contest their match. The best value on the threeball card, though, comes in the afternoon wave, when defending champion Paul Waring could cause an 11-4 upset against Alex Noren and Erik van Rooyen.

Waring should feel ten-feet tall on the tee at Hills Golf Club, the scene of his only European Tour triumph, and he has built on that victory this season. Sixth place in Abu Dhabi was followed by third in the Dubai Desert Classic, then sixth in the British Masters and seventh in the Irish Open.

Waring has shown enough to suggest he is well capable of firing again at a track where he opened with rounds of 66 and 63 last year.
Noren has not been at his best this season, putting below his usual high standards, while Van Rooyen is an inconsistent operator who chips and putts poorly. There is definitely scope for Waring keeping pace with his playing partners.

Recommendation
P Waring
1pt 11-4 general
