Preview

Nocturnal golf punters should be lapping up the second half of the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai with Rory McIlroy poised for a weekend charge a shot behind leader Matthew Fitzpatrick.

McIlroy is a general 7-4 to claim glory but a bet at the same price for Kevin Kisner to win the 2.05am threeball with Bubba Watson and Matthias Schwab may provide better initial value.

Kisner is a consistent performer who finished second at the Sheshan International three years ago and there is evidence that he is getting back into the swing of things after a layoff of more than two months.

He was 66th at last week's Zozo Championship in Japan, but that was his first competitive action since he finished ninth at the Tour Championship and it is possible that he has shaken off a lot of the rust.

Kisner finished 12th and ninth at the other two FedEx Cup playoff events and it would not be a surprise if he maintained the levels he displayed in his Friday round of 67.

While Watson won this tournament in 2014, he has done little at the venue since, claiming finishes of 35th and 54th before missing the event in the last two years.

The two-time Masters winners was ninth in the last WGC event - the St Jude Invitational - but that was his first top-ten finish since he was fourth in March's Valspar Championship.

He finished with a 75 at last week's Zozo which left him 20 shots behind winner Tiger Woods and it would not be a surprise if he fades again.

Schwab's form has been good with fout top-ten finishes in his last seven events on the European Tour and he started well in China with a 67.

That looks encouraging for the weekend but with Kisner the same price to come out on top of the threeball as the Austrian, who is still looking for his first significant win, preference is for the man from South Carolina.
