Will Zalatoris claims first triumph in FedEx St Jude Championship victory
Ewen Ferguson goes wire-to-wire to win ISPS Handa World Invitational
Will Zalatoris now has his eyes on the $18m first prize for winning the FedEx Cup playoffs after finally claiming his maiden PGA Tour victory on Sunday.
The 25-year-old from San Francisco won the FedEx St Jude Championship in a playoff against Sepp Straka on the third extra hole to end a run of recent near-misses.
He was runner-up to Justin Thomas at this year's US PGA Championship, tied for second behind Matt Fitzpatrick at the US Open in June and was thwarted by Hideki Matsuyama when battling for the Green Jacket at the Masters last year.
The win was enough to take Zalatoris to the top of the FedEx rankings ahead of world number one Scottie Scheffler.
That could be key as handicap starts are allotted at next week's Tour Championship, so the higher the ranking, the better chance he will have of being crowned champion.
Open winner Cameron Smith is third in the list with the top 70 players having booked their spot at this week's BMW Championship in the unfamiliar surroundings of the Wilmington Country Club in Delaware.
Lucas Glover, Adam Scott, Andrew Putnam and Wyndham Clark all started last week's event outside the top 70 but decent showings at TPC Southwind saw them make the cut to tee it up at Wilmington.
On the DP World Tour, Ewen Ferguson held his nerve to claim a wire-to-wire victory at the ISPS Handa World Invitational at Galgorm Castle in Northern Ireland.
It was his second victory of the season following success at the Qatar Masters. Ferguson's fellow Scot Connor Syme and Spain's Borja Virto finished three shots adrift of the winner.
