Thorbjorn Olesen has decent form in World Golf Championship events and that should help him win his threeball clash with Phil Mickelson and Haotong Li at 6.59pm BST on Friday.

The Dane made a strong start with a four-under-par 66 at TPC Southwind in Memphis and no player in the 63-man field gained more shots from tee to green in Thursday's opening round.

He had a few wobbles on the greens, but there was still a significant improvement on his experience at last week's Open, when a third-round 77 put paid to his chances and he finished 57th.

Before that Royal Portrush disappointment, he had earned a tenth place at the BMW International Open and 15th at the Irish Open.

He also seems to enjoy competing at the high level of WGC events as he has claimed top-ten finishes in four of his last seven strokeplay efforts in such sanctioned tournaments.

The 29-year-old is capable of getting the better of Mickelson, who finished two shots behind him on Thursday.

Lefty went through a crash diet to lose 15lbs in a week before missing the cut at Royal Portrush, which was the fifth time in his last seven attempts that he has failed to play all four rounds.

The two exceptions were 52nd at the US Open and 71st at the US PGA Championship so the 49-year-old clearly has work to do.

Li, meanwhile, is also picking himself up after straight missed cuts at the Scottish Open and The Open, and he failed to make many waves in his opening one-under-par effort of 69.
