Viktor Hovland won the Hero World Challenge in a thrilling duel with Scottie Scheffler on Sunday - the Norwegian edging a Bahamas battle by two shots at The Albany.

Hovland, 16-1 at the outset, led by five shots through ten holes of the final round and appeared to be cruising to a successful title defence. Scheffler, though, rallied with four birdies in six holes to set up a tense finish.

Hovland led by two shots going up the par-four 18th hole, but pulled his approach shot into the water. Scheffler found the greenside bunker with his approach, played an average shot from the sand, before Hovland ended the contest by heroically draining a long bogey putt.

Hovland has won five PGA Tour titles and they have all come in the same region - Puerto Rico, Playa del Carmen (twice) and The Bahamas (twice). He became the first player since Tiger Woods to win back-to-back Hero World Challenge titles.

Earlier in the day, Adrian Meronk was the 25-1 winner of the Australian Open and Thriston Lawrence was the 22-1 winner of the South African Open.

This week sees the Alfred Dunhill Championship on the DP World Tour, the QBE Shootout on the PGA Tour and The Match VII - Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy against Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth in a 12-hole betterball contest on Saturday at Pelican GC in Florida.

Injury ruled Woods out of the Hero World Challenge last week, but he can ride a buggy in The Match, so can partner the world number one at Pelican.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout returns for the Alfred Dunhill at Leopard Creek, while three-time champions Harris English and Matt Kuchar are back for the QBE Shootout at Tiburon GC, Florida.
