Nick Taylor was the 150-1 winner of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the Canadian outsider emphatically defeating Phil Mickelson in a Sunday duel at the iconic Californian venue.

Taylor started the final round with a one-shot lead and to the delight of bookmakers the world over he had extended that advantage to five shots through the opening nine holes. Mickelson rallied to get back to within two shots after the 14th hole, but Taylor kicked clear again to leave Lefty backers in despair.

Mickelson was seeking a sixth Pebble Beach Pro-Am victory, but eventually had to settle for third place behind Taylor and a fast-finishing Kevin Streelman. The European Tour provided a more damaging result for the laying community with rising star Min Woo Lee, a 20-1 chance, claiming his first victory as a professional in the Vic Open.

The European Tour takes a break this week, leaving the stage clear for the Genesis Invitational on the PGA Tour. Tiger Woods, who finished ninth in the Farmers Insurance Open last time out, tees up at Riviera Country Club for an event he has never won.

Joining Woods at Riviera will be Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson and Patrick Cantlay – every member of the world's top six is competing – so the Californian gathering will be tough to win.
