Rory McIlroy 5-1 to win US PGA and 80-1 for calendar Slam as thrilling Masters triumph costs the bookies dear
McIlroy completed the career Grand Slam with an Augusta National playoff success over Justin Rose

Bookmakers were left to count the cost on Sunday night following Rory McIlroy's dramatic playoff success at the Masters with some reporting seven-figure payouts after the Northern Irishman's triumph at Augusta National.
Sent off the 13-2 second-favourite behind world number one Scottie Scheffler, McIlroy defeated England's Justin Rose with a birdie at the first extra hole, ending a decade-long wait for his fifth Major title while also becoming the sixth golfer to complete the career Grand Slam.
The popular Northern Irishman arrived at Augusta after PGA Tour wins at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Players Championship and his triumph after a topsy-turvy final round proved an expensive one for bookmakers including William Hill.
Hills' spokesperson Lee Phelps said: "Masters Sunday will go down as one of the most dramatic we’ve ever seen, but also as one of the most significant in the history of betting on golf. In total, we’re now looking at a seven-figure payout".
Hills had offered money back as a free bet on outright losers if McIlroy won the Masters, while Coral also settled runner-up Rose as a winner as part of their Pipped In A Playoff promotion.
"It proved to be a costly result but given the achievement, and the way he [McIlroy] battled on the final day, we are paying out with a smile on our faces," said Coral’s John Hill.
McIlroy is 11-2 to retain the Green Jacket next year, something which hasn't been achieved since Tiger Woods in 2003, while he is a best-priced 5-1 to double up with a victory in next month's US PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club, a venue where he has won four times on the PGA Tour.
The 35-year-old is 6-1 to win the US Open at Oakmont Country Club in June and the same price to win the Open Championship on home soil at Northern Ireland's Royal Portrush in July.
Coral make McIlroy 80-1 to win the calendar Grand Slam. He is 15-8 to win two Majors this year and 14-1 to complete a hat-trick. It's 1-2 that the Masters is his sole Major success this year.
The Northern Irishman is also the 8-13 favourite to be crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year and, in doing so, would become the first golfer to scoop the prize since Sir Nick Faldo won it after claiming the first of his three Masters titles in 1989.
PDC World Darts Championship winner Luke Littler is 7-2 while Lando Norris, who leads the Formula 1 drivers' championship after four races of the new season, is 6-1. It's 25-1 bar the top three in the market.

How McIlroy's Masters odds fluctuated
McIlroy went into the final round at Augusta National with a two-shot lead but his advantage evaporated after a double-bogey at the opening hole and he quickly found himself trailing playing partner Bryson DeChambeau by a shot after the American birdied the second – at which point he touched 2.50 on the Betfair Exchange.
But as DeChambeau slipped back with bogeys at three and four, McIlroy battled back with a brilliant four-under-par run from the third hole to the tenth, stretching his lead to four shots as a charging Rose emerged as his biggest rival.
McIlroy traded at just 1.06 as DeChambeau found the water with his approach on 11 and Rose made bogey on 14, although he soon drifted after he also dropped a shot on the 11th.
Disaster struck again for McIlroy on the par-five 13th when his third shot, a wedge from just 86 yards, inexplicably found a watery grave in Rae's Creek.
The Northern Irishman failed to get up and down from the drop zone, carding his second double-bogey, while his Ryder Cup colleague Rose made birdies on both 15 and 16 to tie the Masters lead. McIlroy hit 1.40 after the double and 1.55 when Rose reached 11 under.
A seven on 13 was followed by a bogey five on 14, leaving Rose in the solo lead and McIlroy tied for second with Ludvig Aberg, who reached ten under par before his Green Jacket hopes ended with a bogey at 17.
The trio were briefly tied for the lead when Rose also bogeyed 17 but McIlroy once again took control on the par-five 15th as his second, a gutsy hook from behind the trees which will be the defining image of the 2025 Masters, finished seven feet from the hole.
McIlroy eventually made birdie and was matched at 1.25, then he appeared to have the Green Jacket at his mercy when stiffing his approach on 17, touching 1.16 in running.
McIlroy stood on the 18th tee with a one shot lead after Rose closed with a long birdie putt to reach 11 under par but, after a superb drive, he dumped his approach shot into the bunker right of the green. He hit 1.36 when finding the sand then 1.18 before missing a six-foot putt to win the Green Jacket.
The two Europeans returned to the 18th for a sudden-death playoff and McIlroy, at this point 1.70 favourite on Betfair, once again found the fairway with his drive and, at the second attempt, made no mistake with his approach, leaving himself four feet for birdie.
After Rose failed to make birdie, McIlroy made his putt and sank to his knees, following in the footsteps of Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods in completing the career Grand Slam.
