Steve Palmer's top tip
Dustin Johnson 5-2
PGA Tour chiefs have billed their 2020-21 schedule as Super Season, with six Majors and 50 events, and the Stateside bigwigs will be praying that Covid-19 disappears quickly enough for the jam-packed calendar to go uninterrupted.
With an Olympics and a Ryder Cup also thrown into the mix, an epic year seems to lay ahead. Two of the six Majors have already been played - Bryson DeChambeau and Dustin Johnson romping to comfortable victories in the US Open and Masters respectively - and that dynamic duo dominate the PGA Tour money list betting.
Johnson, with more than $3 million in the bank already for this term and a lead of $614,190 over DeChambeau, is an irresistible favourite at 5-2. Those odds seem extremely healthy about a world number one who is oozing career-high levels of confidence.
Nobody would be surprised if DJ played a winning tune at Augusta again in April - his form figures from his last five visits are 6-4-10-2-1 - and his runner-up effort in the 2011 Open shows he has a liking for this year's Open venue. Winning those two would take Johnson to a similar mark to that which Justin Thomas had to top the money list last season - $7,344,040. Of course, a Major double is a serious challenge, but it shows how the money-list leader is only a few big performances away from posting a competitive dollar total.
Johnson won the PGA Tour money list in 2016. Expect serious gains on the West Coast Swing next year, maybe a third WGC-Mexico success, and possibly a second WGC-Match Play crown in Texas. He could be odds-on for the money list before even starting his Masters title defence, and the WGC-FedEx St Jude Invitational is an August joy for the two-time Southwind champion.
Next best bet
Tiger Woods 250-1
Thomas, money-list winner in three of the last four seasons, is arguably the main danger to Johnson backers. At the prices, though, perhaps a speculative each-way investment on Tiger Woods is a better option.
The career of Woods could be revived by his renewed passion for the sport - he has been loving the golfing development of his 11-year-old son Charlie - and if Woods senior can stay healthy throughout 2021 then he could provide a final flourish at the age of 45.
Woods was victorious in the previous US Open at Torrey Pines and has won the regulation PGA Tour event there seven times. Augusta in April will be more to his liking than it was in November, while Royal St George's is definitely the sort of Open track which suits him these days.
Tiger is highly motivated to stay fit and active - he is desperate to compete in the Olympics - and there must be a chance he adds a couple of events to his usual early-season schedule in a bid to qualify for the American team for Tokyo.
Woods has won the PGA Tour money list ten times and could cause a shock this year if he peaks for the right events.
