First-round preview

Three courses are in play for this week's Pebble Beach Pro Am - and tournament favourite Patrick Cantlay gets the chance to tackle the easiest of the trio in round one.

Cantlay is scheduled to tee off at 4.41pm UK and Ireland time at Monterey Peninsula. Defending champion Daniel Berger also starts at Monterey Peninsula, with Spyglass Hill in round two and a weekend at Pebble Beach.

Betfair (#OddsonThat) and Power (#WhatOddsPaddy) have dangled a couple of attractive prices in their 'customer requests' section, with 2-1 and 15-2 on offer about a pair of entirely feasible scenarios. Cantlay and Cameron Tringale both to end the event in the top 20 is 2-1.

Cantlay, 11th and third in the last two Pebble Beach Pro-Ams, has 2022 form figures of 4-9 and seems extremely likely to contend this week. His fellow Californian Tringale, third in the Farmers Insurance Open last week, can also be fancied to go well.

Cantlay to finish in the top ten with Maverick McNealy in the top 20 and Andrew Putnam in the top 40 also appeals at 15-2. All three are well equipped to handle this assignment.

First-round twoball punters are pointed towards Ryan Palmer (5.36pm, Monterey) and Patrick Rodgers (4.30pm, Pebble). Palmer, 12th in the Sony Open and 16th in the Farmers Insurance Open, has made a strong start to the year and seems a value outsider against Jordan Spieth. A bacterial infection rocked Spieth last week and the illness has lingered.

Rodgers, a college star in California and eighth in the 2018 Pebble Beach Pro-Am, is 103 places above Bronson Burgoon in the world rankings.
