Story so far

France are in the football World Cup final and a nation awaits to see if Les Bleus can capture that prize for a third time on Sunday - and there is a good chance of French success in the Mauritius Open golf as well.

Antoine Rozner and Julien Brun are first and second at Mont Choisy Le Golf, Grand Baie, Mauritius. Rozner, 16-1 pre-tournament, is a shade of odds-on across the board as he takes a two-shot lead into the final round. Brun, 35-1 at the outset, is a general 4-1 for a maiden DP World Tour triumph.

Rozner has twice won on the DP World Tour - the 2020 Golf in Dubai Championship and the 2021 Qatar Masters. The 29-year-old Parisian covered his final seven holes of round three in four under par to take control of the tournament.

Oliver Bekker is alone in third place, with first-round pacesetter Sami Valimaki tied for fourth. Valimaki opened with a ten-under-par 62 and has followed with two rounds of 72.

Final-round preview

A windy Saturday at Mont Choisy Le Golf tested the Mauritius Open title contenders and the ball-striking quality of Antoine Rozner saw him survive better than most.

Rozner has been hitting his ball with great authority in recent months, let down by his putter. It seemed that putting frailty was going to cost him again after an uncertain start to round three, but he holed an enormous putt for birdie at the fourth hole and took charge from there.

With two DP World Tour maidens just behind him on the leaderboard, Rozner will be excited about this opportunity. He lost a playoff for this tournament when it was last staged in 2019.

Punters on Rozner ante-post can be on good terms with themselves, but there is no urge to play at 20-23. Julien Brun and Oliver Bekker are dangerous, while Sami Valimaki and Jayden Schaper will both feel like they are still well in the hunt, too.

Rozner is the most likely winner, but at the prices, it may be worth taking a chance on Schaper, who is certainly capable of carding something in the mid-to-low 60s and setting a mark which intimidates Rozner and Co.

Schaper, formerly the best amateur in South Africa, has been a Sunshine Tour leaderboard regular. The 21-year-old watched compatriot Ockie Strydom make the leap from Sunshine Tour to DP World Tour with a gutsy victory at the age of 37 in the Alfred Dunhill Championship last week, so Schaper knows he has time on his side. This could be his moment.

If Rozner's problem putting returns and he treads water in front, Brun, Bekker, Valimaki and Schaper will probably be waiting to take advantage. The 25-1 about Schaper enjoying a come-from-behind success seems worth chancing. He was bogey-free from the sixth hole onwards in round three, finishing his Saturday strongly.

Schaper was the best scorer in the 2019 All Africa Team Championship at Mont Choissy - an amateur event won by South Africa - so he is clearly fond of this layout. Each-way terms of a third the first two are available.

A sunny, warm day, with moderate breezes throughout, is forecast. The all-French final twoball of Rozner and Brun is scheduled on the tee at 8.07am UK and Ireland time.

Last year's Challenge Tour Rankings winner, Nathan Kimsey, can lead a Sunday twoballs double. The in-form Kinsey should be too solid for Thomas Aiken in the 6.12am contest, while Bekker is much preffered to Pierre Pineau in the 7.57pm match.
