Steve Palmer's Turkish Airlines Open preview

China has just delivered a world champion snooker player in the shape of Zhao Xintong, and Chinese players fill two of the first three places in the betting for this week's Turkish Airlines Open on the DP World Tour.

Haotong Li and Wenyi Ding appear plenty short enough at the odds, while Jordan Smith, the player sandwiched in between the Chinese pair, is poor in contention. Punters should dig deeper in the betting for the value.

Steve Palmer's top tip

John Parry 60-1

The highest-ranked player in this week's field is John Parry, who is being hugely disrespected in the market. The 38-year-old is at the peak of his powers, having won three times on the Challenge Tour last year, before claiming a second DP World Tour title in the Mauritius Open in December.

Parry has become such a steady player, has always been a strong putter, and this week's assignment seems ideal for him. It is tight from tee to green, with large, sloping greens on which the best putters should thrive. Parry was runner-up in the Kenya Open at the end of February in another test of accuracy. The Yorkshireman will fear nobody in this week's line-up.

Next best bet

Jayden Schaper 60-1

South African 24-year-old Jayden Schaper may be ready for a DPWT breakthrough. He was fifth in the Qatar Masters in February, then fourth in the Kenya Open and ninth in the Joburg Open.

Schaper missed the cut by a shot at less suitable layouts in his last two events, but this week's course looks perfect. The youngster is accurate from tee to green and typically sharp with putter in hand.

Other selections

Kazuma Kobori 80-1
Martin Couvra 60-1
Marcus Kinhult 100-1
Jens Dantorp 100-1

Four victories on the Australasian Tour quickly established Kazuma Kobori as a player of great potential. The New Zealander, an accurate player who putts well, won the Aussie Tour Order of Merit last year and has settled quickly after his upgrade to the DPWT, posting four top-25 finishes. Ninth place in Singapore at the end of March was followed by 20th spot in the China Open.

Martin Couvra won on the Challenge Tour in 2023, his first season on that circuit, and the 22-year-old Frenchman is hunting a DPWT breakthrough. He was seventh in the Dunhill Championship just before Christmas, fourth in the Bahrain Championship in February, then fifth in Qatar, before taking fifth spot again in the Hainan Classic last time out.

Marcus Kinhult, accurate when on his game and typically excellent on the greens, won the British Masters in 2019 before suffering with some health problems. Last year showed he was back to his best, with runner-up efforts in the KLM Open and the Dunhill Championship. He was 15th in the China Open last month.

While most of this week's field are seeing the venue for the first time, Kinhult finished 30th in the 2018 Turkish Airlines Open at Regnum, carding back-to-back 68s at the weekend. His missed cut on a bombers' paradise in the Hainan Classic last time out is easy to forgive.

Complete the staking plan with another neat and tidy Swede – three-time Challenge Tour winner Jens Dantorp. The 36-year-old is seeking a DPWT breakthrough and Regnum is a great fit. He was in terrible form when teeing up there in 2018, having missed his last nine cuts, finishing 64th. This time, fresh from fourth place in the Indian Open, he should do himself justice.
