Preview

The weather forecast for Fort Worth, Texas, this week provides the opportunity of a draw bias in the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club - the early starters could be set for better conditions.

Thursday afternoon winds appear likely to deliver the biggest challenge for the Colonial competitors over the first two days. The likes of Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed, Scottie Scheffler, Daniel Berger, Joaquin Niemann, Justin Rose and Will Zalatoris may avoid any serious breeze from their early-late tee-times.

Phil Mickelson, who remains on the entry list and looks to be going to post immediately in the wake of his US PGA Championship glory, also has an apparently favourable set of tee-times. Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa and Abraham Ancer are in the opposite side of the draw.

Spieth to beat Thomas seems a strong match-bet option regardless of any weather assistance. Spieth has a magnificent Colonial record, including victory in 2016 and two second places, and he can boast a 32-round scoring average of 67.72.

Spieth had putting problems at the US PGA but has been working on his stroke since Kiawah Island. He should prove a worthy tournament favourite if he has found a solution.

Thomas, who missed the cut in the US PGA last week, finished tenth in his only previous Colonial visit. Spieth, making his ninth start in his home-state event, can draw upon much greater course experience.

Ryan Palmer, a Colonial member who has been in the top 40 of the world rankings ever since finishing runner-up in the Memorial last July, is another attractive match-bet option in a your-choice contest against Kevin Na.

And Justin Rose for top European appeals as another extra investment. The Englishman, who won at Colonial in 2018 and was third last year, has finished seventh and eighth in the last two Majors.
