Players teeing off around 9am local time in the Barbasol Championship are set to get dreamy conditions, with rain-softened fairways, warm sunshine emerging and hardly any breeze, so expect plenty of players to make a fast start in Kentucky.

Davis Thompson led the Rocket Mortgage Classic after round one in his previous event, pinging the lids with a 63, and there seems no reason why the former college star could not make a similarly explosive start at Keene Trace Golf Club. If the forecast is correct, he will get exactly the same weather and set-up he exploited so well in Detroit at the start of this month.

Thompson built his reputation as a Georgia Bulldog - excelling in a state just a short journey south of Kentucky - and he is expected to develop into a PGA Tour star. This is only his fourth pro event, but the best players in the world are otherwise engaged at the Open, so the Barbasol is a great opportunity.

A week where finding fairways is easy and holing putts is crucial does not suit Jason Dufner, so Will Gordon can be fancied to outgun Dufner in a tournament match.
