Jon Rahm drifted from a general 3-1 favourite to a 50-1 outsider after a terrible opening round in the Andalucia Masters at a windy Valderrama.

Rahm dominated the market ante-post, but a birdie-free first round left him 11 shots off the pace. While Julien Guerrier scooted round Valderrama in four under par, Rahm suffered a double-bogey at the 18th hole on his way to a seven-over-par 78.

Rahm quickly went odds-on in the Spanish Open last week, starting the event at 9-4 and carding a Thursday 63, eventually ending the tournament tied for 17th place. This time, he must play catch-up from the off, and making the cut is his immediate target.

Guerrier, a pre-tournament 140-1 chance, has shortened to 11-1 after making six birdies. Rafa Cabrera Bello, who won the Spanish Open last Sunday, has assumed favouritism after a three-under-par 68.

Warm, calmer conditions are forecast for round two, so Rahm has an opportunity to fight back from a 1pm (UK and Ireland) tee time, alongside Cabrera Bello and Matt Fitzpatrick.

Steady Swede, Alexander Bjork, is the most appealing bet on the threeballs card - up against the more erratic Laurie Canter and Joakim Lagergren in the 12.30pm contest.
