Preview

Dean Burmester shrugged aside his miserable Leopard Creek history to fire an opening round of 65 and claim the lead in the Alfred Dunhill Championship.

Burmester had missed seven cuts in his previous nine Alfred Dunhill appearances at Leopard Creek, but eight Thursday birdies quickly erased any bad memories and saw him shorten from 16-1 to 7-2 favourite.

Burmester tees off early on Friday (4.50am UK and Ireland time) looking to kick clear at the top of the leaderboard. Branden Grace, second in the outright betting after a Thursday 67, is a later starter in round two (9.50am).

Second-round threeballs punters may want to consider Jayden Schaper, who carded a steady 69 in round one, bolstering his strong record at Leopard Creek. The 21-year-old rising star, a Sunshine Tour leaderboard regular, outclassed his playing partners on Thursday and can repeat the dose in round two.

Schaper finished second in the 2020 Alfred Dunhill, carding a Friday 67 along the way. Jeremy Freiburghaus (three over par) and Keenan Davidse (two over) are struggling to make the cut, and could easily be left behind by Schaper again.
