Steve Palmer's Evian Championship preview

Jeeno Thitikul remains a Major maiden, having faded from the front in the Women's PGA Championship last month, and the Thai can be left alone as favourite for the Evian Championship.

The fourth of the five LPGA Majors starts in France on Thursday and there is a wide-open feel to the tournament given how many different players have held silverware aloft this season. There have been 17 LPGA Tour events and nobody has won more than one.

Minjee Lee won the last Major, battling well at a super-tough venue, but this week's easier assignment may see the Aussie and her broomstick putter left behind.

World number one Nelly Korda can get back to winning ways in this week's Evian Championship and finally complete a Majors hat-trick. She is winless this year, but recent signs are hugely encouraging.

Low scoring can be expected in France this week – the winning scores in the Evian since it switched back to July have been 15, 18, 17, 14 and 19 under par – and Korda looks best equipped to go birdie crazy in the calm weather.

Korda has been threatening a third Major success, finishing second in the Open last year, then second again in the US Open just over a month ago. Her last three trips to the Evian have resulted in form figures of 8-9-26 – and last year's effort was excellent in the circumstances. She was bitten badly by a dog in the lead-up to the Evian, going to post in discomfort.

This time, Korda is fully fit for the Evian, and she can remind the world why she is the best. She won seven tournaments last year. Her maiden LET title in 2019 came in France.
