Luke Donald odds-on to retain captaincy as Europe's Ryder Cup heroes target home success in Ireland
Europe repel American fightback to keep hold of Ryder Cup and attention moves to the next meeting in two years' time

Ryder Cup reaction
Europe can be backed at 5-6 to win the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in Ireland after their glorious triumph in New York on Sunday.
Shane Lowry holed the decisive putt on the 18th green at Bethpage Black which allowed Europe to fend off a spirited final-day comeback from the United States – and the Irishman will probably play a key role when the Ryder Cup heads to his home country in two years' time.
Bet365's 5-6 offer about Europe for Adare Manor will doubtless see plenty of attention from punters who are prepared to tie up funds for such a long time. Betfair, BoyleSports and Paddy Power go just 8-13 Europe, which is arguably a more accurate assessment of the chances of Europe's dominance of this competition continuing.
The United States have won just six of the last 20 Ryder Cups, yet went off 4-6 favourites for the Bethpage dust-up. They fell 11.5-4.5 behind after two days of pairs action, shunted to 66-1, so an 8.5-3.5 victory in the Sunday singles was not enough to claw back the deficit, despite Europe drifting from 1-50 to 2-5 during the singles drama.
The 15-13 Europe final score was a pre-tournament 12-1 chance which had been eased to 16-1 by Sunday morning – when bookmakers were expecting a more emphatic away success.
The States are a best-price 2-1 with Betfair and Paddy Power to win in 2027, with the tie on offer at 12-1 with BoyleSports, Coral and Ladbrokes. Team USA's last away victory came at The Belfry in 1993, so they will be bidding to end a streak of seven consecutive away defeats.
The home side had won eight of the last nine Ryder Cups – and five in a row – until Europe defied recent history last week. The atmosphere at Adare Manor in two years' time seems sure to be sensational and USA make no appeal at this stage.
There are intangible reasons why Europe perform so much better than the States in the Ryder Cup. Their team spirit is nearly always superior, with a natural camaraderie, genuine friendships, obvious partnerships, an appreciation of European Ryder Cup history and the importance of the event. Europe's players would pay to play in it, let alone get paid, like the USA side was for the first time this year.
The States came alive, as they so often do, in the Sunday singles when teamwork is not required. Playing their own ball, as they would in a standard PGA Tour event, seems so much more comfortable for the American players.
In contrast, Europeans relish the pairs format, perhaps underlined no better last week than in the Saturday afternoon fourballs when Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose inspired each other to defeat Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau 3&2.
The world rankings indicated USA would win in New York – and they had the world number one in their ranks – but a true team overcame a collection of talented individuals. Fleetwood was the top points scorer, with four, while Xander Schauffele and Cameron Young fare best of the Americans with three apiece.
Hills go 4-6 that Luke Donald will lead Europe for a third straight Ryder Cup in 2027 after he became only the second European captain after Tony Jacklin to win home and away matches.
Justin Rose is 4-1 to take over from his fellow Englishman, with the Molinari brothers 6-1 apiece. Padraig Harrington, who presided over a 19-9 defeat at Whistling Straits in 2021, is an eyecatching 10-1.
Hills make Keegan Bradley 2-1 favourite to continue in his role as American skipper in 2027, with Brandt Snedeker and Webb Simpson, both of whom were vice-captains at Bethpage, next in the list at 4-1 apiece.
Four of Europe's Ryder Cup heroes are scheduled to tee up in this week's Dunhill Links Championship on the DP World Tour. Defending champion Tyrrell Hatton is set to be joined by Fleetwood, Robert MacIntyre and Matt Fitzpatrick in Scotland. Rasmus Hojgaard is in action on the PGA Tour in the Sanderson Farms Championship.
