Preview

Germany's Stephan Jaeger will be disappointed to have missed the cut at the Shriners Children's Open but there has been enough in his recent play to suggest he can get the better of out-of-sorts South African Garrick Higgo at this week's Bermuda Championship.

Jaeger's 26th at the Sanderson Farms Championship the week before was a decent effort and that came shortly after three successive top-five finishes on the Korn Ferry Tour, on which he won the Emerald Coast Classic in April.

Higgo stormed into the world's top 50 after winning the Gran Canaria Open and Canary Island Championship on the European Tour and the Palmetto Champions on the PGA Tour, all in the space of seven weeks in a summer to remember.

However, his best finish in 11 completed tournaments since was 41st at the Rocket Mortgages Classic and he has missed seven of those cuts.

The fact he was third from last at the Zozo Championship last week also tempers enthusiasm.

If he was fully fit and his game was in great shape, Patrick Reed could dominate a field like this but the former Masters champion is in a bit of a rut.

A bout of pneumonia put paid to his chances of being selected for Steve Stricker's Ryder Cup team and he now seems to be feeling his way back into action.

However, he looks to be taking only small steps as he missed the cut at the Shriners and was 68th out of a field of 78 at the CJ Cup last time.

His efforts may be eclipsed by Chilean Mito Pereira, who won twice on the Korn Ferry in June and followed that with fifth at the Barbasol Championship - a tournament of a similar standard to this one - and sixth at the 3M Open on the main tour.

Pereira was also third at the Fortinet Championship last month, so he can make a strong challenge.

Las Vegas-based Cornishman Harry Hall is making a strong impression and the 24-year-old, who turned professional in 2019 after playing in the Walker Cup, has already tasted victory on the Korn Ferry.

He played well to finish eighth at the Shriners, which was played close to his adopted home, but a top-30 finish in this moderate field should be within his scope.
