FedEx St Jude Championship predictions

It is 12 years since Harris English tasted TPC Southwind success with a two-shot win at the FedEx Classic, and the man from Georgia looks geared for another bold bid at the Tennessee venue this week.

English won January's Farmers Insurance Open, and he has impressed in Majors this year, claiming runner-up finishes at both the US PGA Championship and last time out at The Open.

What caught the eye at Royal Portrush was that he finished fourth in terms of strokes-gained on approach and second in putting, and both of those metrics appear good indicators of success this week.

He looks capable of getting the better of Viktor Hovland, who has generally been out of sorts this year.

The Norwegian won March's Valspar Championship and was third at the US Open in June, but the rest of his results have not been great and he could struggle to replicate last year's second spot.

While both Tommy Fleetwood and Matthew Fitzpatrick should be suited by this week's tight test, it is worth chancing that Wolverhampton's Aaron Rai can finish as the highest-placed Englishman.

Fleetwood was third two years ago but remains the nearly man of the PGA Tour after being pipped to the post by Keegan Bradley at June's Travelers Championship, and while Fitzpatrick is bang in form after losing his way in the spring, Rai should not be ruled out.

At 55th in the FedEx Cup standings, he needs to get his act together to gain one of the 50 places at next week's BMW Championship, and the fifth spot he claimed in defending the Wyndham Championship last week could stand him in good stead.
