Punters looking for some betting action following the cancellation of British racing should look no further than the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, which gets going an hour before advertised in response to a poor weather forecast on California's Monterey Peninsula.

Twoball bets are available - each professional is paired with an amateur partner this week - and the pick of the bunch could be supporting South Korean sensation Sungjae Im to get the better of old-stager Ernie Els (4.06pm GMT).

They tackle Spyglass Hilll - one of three courses used in the tournament - and Im should not be too discouraged by the one-under-par 71 he shot on the Monterey course on Thursday.

He was going along swimmingly before a triple-bogey seven on the fourth, his 13th hole, knocked him off his stride.

The 20-year-old is playing in the tournament for the first time, but he won two Web.com title last year and posted three runner-up spots on the secondary tour.

Im claimed top-20 finishes at the Sony Open in Hawaii and the Desert Classic and he should make a decent recovery.

Four-time Major winner Els has missed the cut on the two occasions he has played in this tournament. He reached the turn at four under on his first round but faded on the inward nine, so he could slip down the board.

Pebble Beach was the scene of Graeme McDowell's US Open triumph in 2010 and he settled well into his first round on Thursday, carding a four-under-par 68.

That was his first competitive round since he finished tied for 11th at the RSM Classic three months ago and it would be no surprise if he was pegged back by England's Paul Casey.

The Englishman carded a three-under-par total and finished his round with two birdies, so he should be in fine fettle before their 4.17pm tee-off.

Casey finished eighth in the tournament last year and is in decent form having finished second at the Singapore Open last time out.

Big-hitting Keith Mitchell finished 47th on his debut at this tournament last year but he will have high expectations after an opening five-under-par 66 on the Monterey.

He would have started the second day in a share of the lead had it not been for a double-bogey six on the eighth and he can get the better of Charley Hoffman (4.39pm).

Hoffman made up four shots in the second half of his round to card a 69, but he has not finished higher than 45th on his last seven visits and he has not posted a top-ten finish since 2017.
