First-round preview

Race to Dubai leader Bernd Wiesberger joins defending Nedbank Challenge champion Lee Westwood and five-time European Tour victor Matt Fitzpatrick in the final first-round threeball at Gary Player Country Club at 8.50am UK and Ireland time.

Westwood, a three-time Nedbank champion, may be the best option for that contest, but a better-value option is the odds-against about Louis Oosthuizen winning his 8.28am threeball against Robert MacIntyre and Kurt Kitayama.

Oosthuizen has a huge advantage over the two Sun City debutants in terms of course experience, having been contending for the Nedbank title for almost a decade, and the edge should have most impact in round one.

MacIntyre and Kitayama are jostling for the European Tour Rookie of the Year honour – whoever has the highest finishing position in the Race to Dubai will get the award – and both have enjoyed superb opening seasons on the circuit.

But Oosthuizen, a Major champion and former world number four, can outclass the youngsters on familiar terrain in this match.
