Marc Leishman was the 50-1 winner of the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, California, to continue a remarkable streak of success for Australian players.

In the last five weeks, Aussie stars have been claiming trophies all over the world – Adam Scott in the Australian PGA Championship, then Wade Ormsby in the Hong Kong Open, Cameron Smith in the Sony Open, Lucas Herbert in the Dubai Desert Classic, before Leishman edged Jon Rahm by a shot for Farmers glory.

Amid a month of pain for their fire-stricken country, Australia's golfers have been doing their compatriots proud, and Leishman bravely birdied the final hole at Torrey Pines to repel a fast-finishing Rahm. The overnight lead of Rahm quickly disappeared as he fell four over par through five holes of the final round, but an eagle and four birdies in his final six holes meant the Spaniard almost recovered.

Rory McIlroy tied for third place, while Tiger Woods shared ninth spot. The PGA Tour moves to Arizona this week for the Phoenix Open, where Rahm and Justin Thomas are the headline acts.

The European Tour stays in the Middle East for the Saudi International. American superstars Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson have made the trip.
